Justin D'Ath

 JUSTIN D'ATH WEBSITE

Who is Justin D'Ath?

Justin D’Ath (as in Darth Vader) is the author of over 40 books for children and young adults, including the action-packed Extremes Adventures (now a TV series on Channel 10) and the very popular Mission Fox books. His YA novels Hunters & Warriors and Pool were shortlisted in the Victorian Premiers Awards, and both, along with Justin’s YA fantasy Shaedow Master, were judged CBC Notable Books.

Justin’s latest work is a bold, new fantastical futuristic series, The Lost World Circus, (published in 2013) about a futuristic world infected by rat flu, and thirteen-year-old Colt Lawless – the boy who could save it all.

Justin was born in New Zealand and is one of 12 children. He came to Australia in 1971, to study to be a priest. He has had many interesting jobs in his life including working in a sugar mill, on a cattle station, in a mine, picking fruit, driving forklifts and now being an author!

Check out his visit to TLC in 2013...

On August 7th and 8th, 475 students from Years 3 to 8 had the opportunity to meet Justin D’Ath, a well-known author for children and young adults.  As the author of over 40 books, he has written the hugely popular Extreme Adventures and Mission Fox series. The series, Extreme Adventures has recently been filmed by Channel 10, who will televise it as a live action children’s adventure series.  The filming has taken place in South Australia with some scenes on the Fleurieu Peninsula. His new Lost World Circus series has also been overwhelmingly popular amongst the students.

As a part of author promotion and a celebration of Australian authors for Book Week, we invited Justin D'Ath to speak to our students and conduct writing workshops. These children were exposed to his books prior to his visit through interactive activities including a QR code treasure hunt around the school Library, using iPads.

During his visit, Justin presented background information about his books and characters. He also read excerpts which captivated the audience and influenced them to read more of his books.  His workshops inspired the budding writers within the school community and have given them a greater appreciation of the craft of writing.  It has been a positive and powerful experience to have an acclaimed author visit our students, and we are looking forward to offering a similar opportunity in the future.
